Autumn Makeup: Emily's Picks

By far the best season for beauty, I love the colours of autumn so much: bronzes and plums, pinks and coppers. With red hair and pale skin, these colours are in my wheelhouse. A few weeks ago I shopped my own make-up collection to switch it up for autumn and I’ve rediscovered some old favourites which I’m hoping might inspire you. There are quite a few so grab a cuppa and get stuck in!

ONE: First up is my Maybelline Colour Tattoo eyeshadow in On and On Bronze. Stays put all day and can be layered up to create different depths of colour, it’s blendable and a little can go a long way. I can’t say enough good things, just do yourself a favour and get one of these in your life (I clearly need to repurchase).

TWO: Of course with autumn comes cold breezes, central heating and cracked lips. Only one of these things upsets me. Enter the ever-dependable Elizabeth Arden’s 8-Hour Cream. I apply this most nights to try stave off dry lips which, conveniently, allows me to freely use liquid lipstick. Speaking of…

THREE: The Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet liquid lipsticks are such good value for what you get. Apply liberally for the first application and they will last for hours but you have to be brave and go for it with them. If you don’t, you won’t get the true colour of the product and it won’t last as long. The colour you see here is Plum Plum Girl and it’s so nice for this time of year.

FOUR: Sticking with the autumnal lipstick colours, I’ve also popped my Chanel Rouge Coco Shine lipstick in 88 Esprit back into the make-up bag. The colour doesn’t come out quite as dark as it is in the bullet, it ends up more raspberry-coloured on the lips (as you can see in the pic). It’s moisturising and lasts well. Suitable for the office and the bar – any excuse, right?

FIVE: For a quick make-up look I like to wear this gorgeous nude from L’Oreal, Naomi’s Naomi's Color Riche in Delicate Rose. It’s not too drying on the lips, and it’s not too nude that I look dead (my pale skin probably makes me worry about looking corpse-like more than most). Quick ‘n’ easy to apply, it’s a good option for every day.

SIX: Myself and the fluffy ladies will be posting about our favourite nail polish for autumn soon (Spoiler alert! Mine is Chanel’s Mythique) but alongside that I also love Estee Lauder’s Rose Gold. A beautiful pinky-bronze that goes on opaque. And that square, glass bottle deserves a place on your dressing table for sure.

SEVEN: OK, this one might be polarising: brown mascara. I know, I know, I’m a complete Aisling. But here’s the thing, my colouring is very fair, I’ve no eyebrows and my lashes have very fair roots. Brown mascara just works for me for daytime and Benefit’s They’re Real mascara means I don’t have to faff about with eyelash curlers. Granted this isn’t the best choice for darker hair and skintones but y’know, bygones and all that.

EIGHT: Lastly, I’ve been using these shimmer pearls from The Body Shop as a touch of highlight to make the most of that autumn sun. The colour is Brush on Radiance and boy is that aptly named. This can take a heavy hand and you still won’t mess it up which, for me, is the perfect quality in a highlighter.

Aaand we’re done! That was quite the list, well done if you made it this far. Anything there a favourite of yours? Do you judge me for my brown mascara? Let me know, I can take it.
