Autumn Beauty Trends: Three We're Excited To Try

Autumn 2016 Beauty Trends

September hits and instantly, the sparkly lip glosses and aqua eyeliners of the summer just feel wrong. Personally, I think autumn is by far the best beauty season; makeup gets a little more serious at this time of year and, while perennial autumn trends like dark lipstick and lived-in liner are doing the rounds again, so too are some less expected looks.

Autumn Beauty Trends and Key Products

Red: Definitely the colour of the season, get ready to rouge up all of the usual suspects - lips, cheeks, nails – but also, this season, the eyes. It sounds tricky to pull off but the key to making it work is nailing the texture and formula: I'm still reaching for this excellent Chanel eye palette, and this Armani eye tint makes it a breeze to get the look.

Natural skin: Ok, so fresh and healthy looking skin isn’t exactly a ground-breaking or unexpected look - but autumn usually means we’re reaching for fuller coverage. Instead, this year is all about keeping it real, but with a flattering radiance and glow. I already talked about Bourjois' City Radiance, and something like the new – and excellent - Clarins BB Skin Detox Fluid with SPF 25 would also be ideal. This was released with their autumn collection, which will be on the blog next week.

And as a pre-make-up step, try the new Garnier Moisture Bomb Tissue Masks, which you may have seen over on my Instagram. These are just €2.30 for a single-use mask and make skin look smooth and plumped up.

Structured lip: Autumn has always been a season for lipstick but this season's lip calls for plenty of lip-liner, too, to create a structured lip that’s being described as ‘heart-shaped’ in fashion and beauty circles.

Basically, use liner to exaggerate your cupids bow and the fullness of your bottom lip; colour wise, you won’t go wrong with reds (see point 1 above!), and there are some really interesting purples this season, too, from brands including Urban Decay, Smashbox and MAC. That's the lovely Rosie from Smashbox walking me through the look, in the photo above.
