Farnham Estate: five reasons to heart this fab four-star Irish hotel

Farnham Estate Radisson Blu Hotel Spa Cavan

Farnham Estate Golf & Spa Resort in County Cavan has been a long time love of mine. I recommend it to everybody and have been there with pals, on press trips and most recently, with Mr Fluff. But what, exactly, makes this place so special? I'm glad you asked...

ONE: the location. Not gonna lie, the fact that this is an easy, 90 minute drive from Dublin is a major plus in my book.  So close and yet so far, as the old songs go:  I was surprised by how quickly we got there, but once we had, I felt like we were a million miles away from urban life and its stresses and strains.

TWO: the setting. It’s pretty special, if country mansions, mature woodlands and serene lakes are your kinda thang. I love the place because I feel calm and happy just wandering around the woods or gazing out the hotel windows. You are literally surrounded by natural beauty and that does wonders for your mood.

THREE: the food, which is local, seasonal and (most importantly) delicious, with several dishes on the restaurant menu featuring ingredients sourced from the estate. The food offering now includes a decadent afternoon tea, complete with bubbles, which is served in the beautifully refurbished Music Room. Needless to say, I’m a fan.

FOUR: The spa facilities are way above average, with a massive chill out area upstairs with juice, fruit and teas, and the fabulous (and also pretty massive) thermal suite downstairs. I love the hydration station offering three flavours of infused water. But my favourite part, the jewel in Farnham’s crown, is the indoor/outdoor pool.

FIVE:  How do you improve something already bordering on perfection? Simples: add in one of the most luxe and lovely spa brands. Farnham is Ireland’s only four star hotel to offer ESPA treatments and products, and the launch was the reason for our trip. My massage was heaven, complete with ESPA’s signature oil blends. Treatments start from €60, with summer weekend rates in the hotel from €249 per room on a bed and breakfast basis. Check out the website for the latest info and offers.

Fluff and Fripperies was a guest of the hotel.
