Any day now, it’s gonna get all festive and glittery up in our grill but, for now, it’s still all about autumn beauty round these parts: earthy, warm-toned shades and products that are flattering and wearable whatever your age or skintone.
We get a bit obsessed with adding a bit of life and lustre back into dull-looking skin at this time of year and I’ve been loving the bones of my Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow foundation. Not only is it creamy and easy to blend with good coverage, but it both mattifies and adds luminosity to the skin, which is a bit of a modern day makeup miracle. It’s got a bit of colour correction wizardry going on too so it perks up my skintone and makes me look fresher and healthier than I’m actually feeling these days.
Too Faced is a brand I was recently introduced to: I had only tried (and liked) their Better Than Sex mascara in the past. I got a few bits to try out in a goody bag that I’ve really been enjoying: the Benefit-a-like brow product, Brow Quickie (comparison coming soon!), and the Melted Matte liquid lipstick in Sell Out which is one of those lovely spicy 90s-inspired brown shades I am all about right now. They haven’t left my makeup bag since I got ‘em.
Now that my hair is lighter, I have to bronze up a little to avoid looking really washed out. The Victoria Beckham for Estee Lauder bronzer in Java Sun came into my life at a recent event, and it’s so, so lovely. The packaging feels incredibly luxe and the formula is almost fool-proof: it’s fine and sheer, so you can lash it on and it never looks over-done.
Before that though, I was using and loving the Rimmel Sunshimmer Bronzer in medium matte so if you don’t have a spare €58 lying around for Victoria’s offering, give that a whirl instead. For blusher, MAC’s Harmony is an oldie but a goodie and pairs well with all these warm and earthy hues.
On to eyes, and the Clarins Supra Volume mascara (it launched with the autumn collection) has gotta be one of the best that I’ve tried: I’m using it almost daily. And, last but in no way least, you will have seen and read a thousand reviews of the Urban Decay Naked Basics eyeshadow palette by now, and I’m another convert. I love the shade choice and the formula: it’s much harder to find a smooth and creamy shadow in a matte formula but this entire palette is a winner and a joy to use.
