Brown Thomas #BTAW16 Fashion Show, or: How We’ll Be Dressing Next Season

Brown Thomas Autumn Winter 2016 Beauty Look

With the models' bleached brows and glowing skin, the edgy beauty look at the Brown Thomas AW16 fashion show was a sure sign of things to come.

“We did a fresh take on modern, feminine beauty inspired by Givenchy AW16,” explained Aidan Corcoran from the store's Beauty Style Team.  “For AW16 we are seeing a redefinition of strong feminine beauty: powerful eyes are unapologetically back, paired with healthy, fresh skin.”

The makeup set the tone: modernity, innovation and attitude were the buzzwords for the show, which is always highlighted, bolded and triple-underscored in the Dublin fashion calendar, As well as being a glamorous, fun way to start the day, and a chance to catch up with pals (like Rosemary, above) the event is a great guide to next season’s key looks.

So what will we be wearing? Well a new autumn/winter coat is one of my most anticipated purchases, so I was keeping a beady eye out for new trends. My favourite leopard print made an appearance in the form of this fabulous Dries Van Noten piece (and regular readers will know where to head for your highstreet fix).

Belted coats are also a new season trend - handy if you want to spruce up what’s already in your wardrobe - and I liked this slouchy, khaki number from Loewe, new to Brown Thomas this year. The crazy cat lady in me practically purred at the sight of the brand's oversized cat-face necklace, too, when it slinked down the catwalk.

Oversized anything is set to be big next season (pun totally intended) and this gave me cause to rejoice: such a lovely, forgiving silhouette, especially in winter when I like eating all of the carbs. Also good news for my favourite (and very overworn) Cos cocoon dress, which I won’t be retiring just yet.

Likewise, winter florals, layering and all-black-errrthang are three very practical trends that I’ll be happy and comfortable wearing in AW16. For those who want something more fabulous, Alexander McQueen, Valentino and Oscar de la Renta will oblige – all three championed fairy tale fantasy, with McQueen’s floor-length red silk gown (above) being a showstopper.

What are you looking forward to most about new season style?
