I don’t know about you, but we’ve had so many full-on beauty trends lately - from HD brows to strobing and baking - that I’m feeling a bit over that whole exaggerated, perfected vibe. As the days lengthen and lighten and the temperatures rise, I’m ready to strip things back a bit in the beauty stakes – and Clinique has come up trumps this spring, with a host of pretty new launches aimed at letting us do just that.
They sent me some new items to play with which are perfect for achieving a natural, barely-there beauty look. They’re also quick and fun and easy: great for my morning routine, which has been forcibly shortened with the addition of a pre-work doggy walk!
These two pretties are Sugar Plum Pop and Bubblegum Pop, €20, two of four shades in the new Pop Glaze Sheer Lip Colour and Primer range. I'm wearing Bubblegum Pop in the top photo here, and Sugar Plum Pop in the comparison photos below. Billed as a long-lasting but translucent, lightweight product, these had me intrigued, but on application I was actually in two minds. On the one hand, they’re lovely: they glide on smoothly, look and feel high-end and give a pretty, moisturising sheen to the lips.
On the other, the lack of pigment – at least in the two shades I tried (Fireball Pop and Melon Ball Pop look like they have more payoff) – could make some people balk at the price tag. They’re barely there, which of course could be your preference, and it’s the right time of year for this formula; I can see myself using them lots during this spring and summer.
Do they last the promised eight hours? Well, no – but they do last a lot longer than is the norm for a sheer and moisturising lip product. So if you have the budget and you’re in the mood for a wearable, weightless and comfortable product for spring, I think you’ll enjoy these; if you’re a Ruby Woo fan year-round, perhaps not.
|L-R: no makeup, Clinique Chubby In The Nude, Clinique Chubby In The Nude and Sugar Plum Pop.|
I’m wearing them here with Clinique’s new foundation offering (along with lash extensions and a bit of brow pencil; literally a three-product face!). Chubby In The Nude, €30, is a nifty, playful little product – an extension on the Chubby Sticks franchise which also incorporates lips, cheeks and eyes.
I love this range and I squealed out loud when I first clapped eyes on the latest addition, so I’m pleased to say it didn’t let me down. This feels so nice on the face; it’s super creamy and blendable (there’s Vitamin E in the formula) and, while it’s barely there, it still provides enough coverage to even out my complexion.
Note the improvement in my dark circles and the pigmentation marks on my chin and below my eyes, not to mention the redness at the sides of my nose. Pretty impressive, considering I still look like I'm not wearing makeup. Plus, it’s all kinds of fun to apply, and with 10 shades in the range, you've a good chance of getting a decent match; I have Intense Ivory, which I'm really liking.
Everything will be on counter from mid April – will you be checking them out?
