Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Matte Lipstick Review, Pics, Swatches

Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Matte Lipstick Nude Embrace Siren In Scarlet

As we head towards the party season, I have to weigh up two opposing, but insistent demands: that of my makeup bag, which cries out for an injection of colour and glamour, and that of my credit card, which is screaming for a break. Thankfully, a recent Boots trip has provided a solution, in the form of the Maybelline Colour Sensational Creamy Mattes, which are all that and a bag of chips – and just €9.99.

I snapped up two to try out. Nude Embrace won’t be for everyone; it’s a beige-toned nude, and rosier hues tend to suit more skintones. But I grew up in the 90s so a good concealer lip has definite appeal – the shade washes me out a little but looks good with defined eyes and liberally applied blush.

Despite being much louder, Siren In Scarlet is actually a more wearable shade: it’s a lovely, bright and slightly warm-leaning red, that will look very pretty on a wide range of colourings. It's pretty early to say for sure, but I'm leaning towards this for my work's Christmas do.

True to their name, the formula of both is nice and creamy, meaning the lippies apply really well and don’t drag on the lips like some old-school mattes.  Bold colour plus a creamy, non-drying texture is the promise and these babies deliver, with a velvety feel and punchy pigmentation that’s near opaque in just one swipe. And the colour lasts, too, hanging round for a good five hours and leaving a pretty stain behind.

Here’s hoping Maybelline will extend the 6-strong shade range available to us here – there are up to 20 in other markets – because Imma be needing them all.

Tried ‘em? Thoughts?
