So I finally listened to Karen, and started using Snapchat last Friday. Obviously, I’m now totally addicted and have no time to do things like eat, sleep or put on makeup, which would concern me slightly if I wasn’t too busy looking at Snapchat (find me @fluffyblog!).
And so it transpired that I left myself with zero time on Saturday night to put my face on and in a mad panic, scooped up those items which were closest to me. They’re all totally affordable and performed really well throughout dinner and a million drinks, so I would highly recommend. It’s two thumbs up from me.
1. Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 HR Nude Foundation
My first time wearing this longwear offering from Rimmel, and colour me impressed. It performed like a high-end base and lasted ages without looking or feeling cakey in the slightest. You can still see my freckles in these pics but you can’t see my spots, which makes it a win-win in my book. And it’s just €8.99; if you can find this in your shade, and you have a face that wants a base, you need to try it.
2. Catrice Liquid Camouflage High Coverage Concealer
I’m loving the shade Light Beige, which is yellow-based just like my skintone (if you’re paler/more pink-toned, try Porcelain). This has a nice, lightweight and creamy consistency, and gives medium coverage that doesn't crease. And at €3.99, it's easy on the pocket, too. It’s launching end August, in pharmacies and selected Penneys nationwide.
3. Maybelline Master Sculpt
This is a fabulous little palette for those of us who don’t want a really obvious, razor-sharp contour. Obviously I wouldn’t mind razor-sharp cheekbones, but I’ve accepted that no amount of makeup will provide these, and a touch of subtle shadow where my cheekbones should be is about the best I can hope for. This is nice and blendable and it’s just €10.75. As an added bonus? It comes with a decent wee mirror and brush. It's also all I'm wearing on my cheeks here, no blusher.
4. Rimmel Nude Collection by Kate Moss #43
There are just two shades of this lippy available in Ireland, but both are gorgeous. I'm wearing #43, a pretty caramel; #45 is more of a rosy hue, and at €6.99 a pop you can probably pick up both. They’re both lovely everyday nudes and are comfy to wear, with Rimmel’s signature, sweet scent.
5. Wet n Wild Silent Treatment Eye Trio
OH EM GEE this eyeshadow trio is just gorgeous: don’t you think the shades look totally sophisticated – and much more spendy than the palette’s pricetag, of a weensy €4.49? That gorgeous shimmery taupe lid colour has stolen my heart. The crease colour is a dead ringer for MAC’s Noir but, just like with the spendier alternative, the sparkle doesn’t actually show up on the eye. Don’t care, though: LOVE! (I’m also mad about this brand’s semi-matte Mega Last Lip Colour line, especially Purty Persimmon, Dollhouse Pink and Pinkerbell, which are just €2.99 a pop and are proudly displayed in my vintage mid-century lipstick holder!)
6. Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara
This won’t give you gigantic, fat lashes, but is perfect for a more natural look like this one, as it fans out and lengthens the lashes for a pretty, but understated, look. It’s a great pick for the office, too.
If you need a bit of a beauty fix but are trying to keep to a budget, pick yourself up any of this lovely lot and you won’t be disappointed. Have you tried anything here, and more importantly, if you’re on snapchat how will I find you? To the comments!
