The biggest winter skin culprit? Dehydration: it can affect all of us, regardless of whether our skin is oily, combination or dry, and it’s what causes that tight, uncomfortable feeling along with redness, flakiness, patchiness and an increase in fine lines.
Caused by a lack of water in the skin, it’s an issue I struggle with all year round but it’s especially bad at this time of year, thanks to seasonal moisture zappers like the cold, wind and central heating – not to mention the excesses of the festive season.
But for the past couple of weeks, my skin has been looking and feeling healthier and more hydrated, thanks to Chanel’s latest skincare innovation: Hydra Beauty Micro Serum.
The high-tech formula acts as a more efficient delivery system for the active ingredients; the aqueous base ‘breaks’ on contact with the skin, to release tiny droplets of camellia oil for hydration, along with the antioxidant blue ginger - which acts as a protective, environmental shield. This delivery method means there’s no need for alcohol, which is often included in serums to help them absorb, but can irritate sensitive skin.
Delicately scented and lovely and lightweight to use, the serum initially feels no different to water; my face feels damp after application, but the product absorbs in seconds to leave skin feeling velvety soft, and comfortably hydrated. It targets the dull complexion that goes hand in hand with dehydration, leaving my skin looking fresher and more radiant, while reducing dehydration lines for a more youthful, plumped up look.
Chanel Hydra Beauty Micro Serum lands tomorrow, January 16th, priced at €81 for 30ml. Mmhmm, it’s pricey ... but there’s no doubt that it works.
