Spring at River Island is all about fun with a capital F – and actually, lots of other things beginning with f, too, like faux fur, fringing, fluffy bags, flatforms and, er, festival chic! With cactus themed cupcakes and props, there was a desert heat theme to last week’s press day - which had us itching to feel the sun on our skin once again.
The 70s will be a huge story this spring and at River Island, we saw loads of geometric prints and colour block pieces, flared jeans, wide legged trousers as well as the aforementioned fun fur and fringing; lots of this also had a 90s vibe, a la the lookbook shot on the right, above.
If you want a more grown up selection the brand’s still got you covered, with their Oxygen trend – a selection of cool whites and soft creams in different textures and silhouettes, from soft tailoring to sportswear and knits.
They’ve also revamped their denim collection for this season, introducing new styles and shapes. And maybe it was the chilly temperatures outside, but I was especially taken with the outerwear offerings which included colourful trenches, a sophisticated suede mac and very fetching floral patterned PU biker jacket. My favourite piece was this swingy, open fronted pastel number above.
Accessories were also brilliant with lots of gold hardwear (my favourite), sunglasses of pretty much every variety and loads of cool kicks, from pool sliders to jewelled sandals, bright street-style inspired runners and brogues.
Anything calling your name for when spring finally puts in an appearance?
