Wednesday's Brown Thomas SS15 fashion show was the perfect antidote to January and its attendant miseries, fizzing as it was with fresh, fun fashion and the optimism that better and brighter days are on their way.

How could you be anything but happy on beholding this perfect, petal pink coat dress from Dior? A beautiful, modern mix of romantic colour and killer tailoring, this feels both feminine and powerful. When I grow up and become a high-powered business woman, this is exactly how I want to dress. Heck, this is exactly how I want to dress right now.

There were other interesting expressions of femininity too, like with Peter Pilotto’s graphic prints and bold colours, edged with the sparkliest, girliest sequins (top pic, centre). More traditional, perhaps, but every bit as beautiful, this Dolce & Gabbana polka dot mini dress was another favourite – pattern plus whimsy in a style that’s both wearable and fun (those flounces!)? Yes please.

The monochrome colour palette was also seen from David Koma (centre) and Oscar De La Renta (right, above); loving that coat with the playsuit!

In terms of hemlines and heel heights, this is a season where pretty much anything goes: we saw ankle skimming skirts, mini dresses, midi skirts, assymetric hems (Koma), cropped trousers and more paired with sandals, flatforms, kitten heels and giganormous heels. (No ankle boots, interestingly, which is what I'd pair with, ooh, pretty much everything I saw.)

The 70s theme tends to roll around each autumn so it’s interesting to see it interpreted for the spring and summer season – the most perfect take on it being this billowing yellow maxi dress by Chloe (far right, above and top pic) combining maximum glamour with a laidback vibe and total ease of wear.

When we think of this decade we think, of course, of flower power and for 2015, the florals are bigger than bolder than the seasonal norm. Mary Katrantzou (top photo), Céline Dress and Marni all offered up their own take on the floral dress in a kaleidoscope of colour and pattern.

Not quite edgy enough for you? Rock n roll is also emerging as a new season theme; check out this Givenchy cut-out dress worn with over-the-knee leather and strappy lace up boots as the perfect example.

SS15, let’s be having you.

(There will be lots more photos from the show on the Fluff and Fripperies Facebook page, so swing by and have a look!)
