When we think of festive fragrances we tend to think all things heady and spicy and warm – so L’Occitane’s Christmas scent, Arlésienne, came as a big surprise.
Light, feminine and floral, this starts off with the freshness of mandarin but the main notes are saffron flower, violet and rose, sweetened with tonka bean and with a drydown of milky sandalwood.
Inspired by the women of Arles in Provence - whose beauty and grace beguiled artists like Christian Lacroix and Van Gogh – this is a delicate, soft and flowery scent with a little bit of sweetness and sparkle, that should appeal to all ages.
The vintage-style packaging, complete with rose gold coloured caps, also lends itself nicely to present-giving (or getting) and would look lovely on your dressing table (or in my case, the top of my bookshelf, which is where I keep my current Most Loveliest Things).
The fragrance, €45.50, joins the permanent collection and is joined by ten co-ordinating body products – some of which are limited edition.
They’re all beautifully packaged and presented but the standouts, for me, are the perfumed Body Oil, €26.00, which can be used to soften and smooth both body and hair, along with a gorgeous candle, €28, and luxurious shower cream, €17.50.
