Right, Halloween has been and gone in a flurry of disappointing horror movies (seriously – what has happened to the genre? If you have any good recommendations please let me know!) - so it’s time to step things up in the glamour stakes by talking about Christmas beauty, which are all landing right about now.
Over the next few weeks I’ll have a few reviews and mug-shots, er, face swatches and the likes for you but today let’s have a looksee at some of the standouts of the festive collections, the bits I’m most excited about and that I reckon you’ll love, too.
One that’s already on counters as of mid-October is this stunner from Clarins, the Essentials Mineral Eye Make-Up Palette, €43, with 10 shadows in an elegant but wearable colour palette, and a mix of finishes – love the look of that matte taupe, and metallic foiled gold. This’ll be a great one for gifting or, y’know, just hogging all for yourself. No judgement!
We always see some really pretty illuminators around this time of year: not only are they perfect for party makeup, but on the day-to-day, they can really perk up tired looking autumn/winter skin.
Just take a gander at this beauty from the November 7th launching Collection Plumes Precieuses de Chanel, why don’tcha? It’s the Camelia de Plumes in Platine, €56, and it’s quite possibly the most beautiful highlighter on the planet.
The platinum shade looks unique and ethereal and, with its mixture of gold and silver pigments, should be pretty spectacular on just about everybody. Loving the camellia flower motif, too.
From the freshly launched Scotch on the Rocks Collection from Bobbi Brown, this highlighter in Bronze Glow (pictured) or Pink Glow, €43, looks verrrrrrry different to the brand’s usual shimmer brick offerings; I haven’t seen it in the flesh, but doesn’t it remind you of sister company Estee Lauder’s brilliant gelee powders? This is one I’m just itching to swatch.
Lancôme have gone with a retro, old-school glamorous vibe with their Poudre de Lumiere, €45, the star product from the Parisian Lights collection which launches at the end of November. This loose iridescent powder is obviously less portable than a palette but is spot-on for long, leisurely getting-ready sessions at your dressing table. Now, if only I actually owned a dressing table…
For nails, everything gets very classic at this time of year with Christmassy reds, golds and burgundies abounding. Some of the nicest examples are from Chanel, YSL, and Lancôme: just look at these pretties. Chanel Le Vernis in Phenix, €23, is a brighter, warmer and more orangey toned red than we usually get from the holiday collections, and YSL’s Bronze Aztec, €24 is a lovely, moody metallic; this type of formula tends to apply really well. Lancôme’s Vernis in Love Illumination is interesting as it’s textured and matte; it’s €19.
