This one is a bit of a no-brainer. If you love wearing nail polish, hate chipped nails and find Shellac and the like a little too high maintenance and/or damaging to your digits, then you need to nab yourself a bottle or two of Sally Hansen’s latest launch. Their Miracle Gel polish launched last week and promises up to two weeks of lasting colour and shine – without the need for LED or UV light.
Similar to CND Vinylux – but more widely available and a couple of quid cheaper – this is a two-step polish and topcoat system that’s quick and easy and makes home manicures more rewarding than ever.
Pop on two coats of Miracle Gel colour, €9.99 a bottle, follow up with the top coat, also €9.99, and allow to dry naturally while you admire that blingin’ high-shine gel effect. The formula applies smoothly and dries fast. Fellow fans of the Complete Salon Manicure range will be happy to note the same pleasingly chunky bottles and extra wide brush.
But this stuff is even betterised (totally a word), thanks to high tech ingredients that cause a chemical reaction in natural light.

So here’s the science bit: the top coat is light activated to react to an ingredient in the polish, so it strengthens and becomes more durable over time.
Did I get two weeks? Nu-uh, but I got five days – and that’s plenty miraculous for me. Plus, you’ll get even longer if you reapply the topcoat every couple of days. It will come off with any ol’ nail polish remover (including acetone free) and, further cause for celebration, there’s no base coat required and it won’t stain your nails – not even this gorgeous bright blue, Hydro Electric.
With 18 colours in the range (though you’ll find even more shades here), I reckon Sally Hansen have another bestseller on their hands - no pun intended! Look for this in chemists and grocery stores nationwide (there’s a stockists list here); duo packs will be available for €14.99, so keep those peepers peeled!
