On counter now, Mac's A Novel Romance collection is major. With six nail lacquers and lipsticks, €10 and €19.50, two brushes, five lipglasses, €18.50, two blushers, €23, three shadow quads, €40 a pop, and seven new fluidline eye pencils, there's loads to choose from but it's the Electric Cool eye shadows, €20, that immediately piqued my interest. I do love a good cream shadow!
With a similar texture to Chanel's Illusion D'Ombre and Lancome's Hypnose Ultra Dazzling shadows, these newbies have that same slight springiness to the touch and sparkly, glossy finish.
|Superwatt swatched with Switch to Blue|
Of the eight on offer here - I think there are twelve in other markets - I've been loving Superwatt, which is described as a light, shimmering taupe. It's very versatile and easy to wear; I daub it on with my fingers for a pretty wash of colour over the lid. It applies more sheer than it swatches, but the colour doesn't crease or fade, and lasts a good eight to ten hours, without a primer.
Superwatt’s the type of shade that goes with just about anything, but it’s especially pretty with a bright lip – like Mac's Mineralize Rich lipstick in Fashion Trip, a hot orangey-red with subtle shimmer.
These are such lovely lipsticks; at €26.50 they're the most expensive lip product that Mac do, but the formula is worth it. It’s seriously hydrating and feels like it's actively nourishing my lips. (Read more about the Mineralize Rich lipsticks here.)
For me, the other standout piece from A Novel Romance is the eponymous quad (the others are called An Amorous Adventure and A Passionate Quest). There's a pale olivey-gold, a grey, a deep brown and a greeny-grey with gold flecks - they're really lovely, cool-toned colours, and the quality is on par with Mac's single shadows too,
Have you been eyeing up anything from this collection? Both the quad and the new Electric Cool shadows are limited, so I'd peg it to your nearest counter to check 'em out while you can!
