Spring Style Staples: The Playsuit

Spring Style Staples: The Playsuit

Emily's back with a passion for playsuits - despite her aversion to the name...
Playsuits: I hate the name, but I love the idea of them. They have the same versatility and ease as just chucking on a dress in the morning; everything is easier when you don't have to match your separates. Plus the shirt and shorts all-in-one combo feels modern and fun. [Breaking News! ASOS Flash Sale has up to 60% off dresses and playsuits, RIGHT NOW!]

To ease the transition between heavy winter clothes and proper warm-weather pieces, the playsuit (ugh, playsuit!) is quickly becoming my go-to in the mornings.

It’s also, rather handily, a versatile day-to-night outfit. Allow me to demonstrate.

I got this pansy print playsuit from Warehouse a couple of months back. (I’m aware “pansy print” does no favours for the term “playsuit”). It's no longer around but they still have a massive selection.
For work, with our changeable spring weather, I just team it with black tights and flats. It's simple and easy and that's the beauty of it. Jewellery-wise I've added some rings and a bracelet from The Button and Bow Factory – my current obsession – and some Penneys pearl earrings I’ve had for an age.

To bump it up a notch for the evening, off come the tights and I slip on some heels. I’m a peep-toe kinda gal so I reach for my black heels, similar to this offering from New Look.

A leather jacket offsets the sweetness of the pansy print and gives the whole look a bit of an edge. My piggy bank is currently filling for this ASOS number  - add a simple black clutch and you’re good to go!

Now, can we do ourselves a favour and come up with a new name for this garment? I’ll go first. How about the dort? Dress/shorts - get it? No? I’ll keep thinking.
