When we think of matte base products, we tend to think of full and heavy coverage that's designed to stay in place all day. Lighter, more luminous matte bases are available, but they do tend to be pricey - think Lancôme's Teint Idole Ultra, Clarins Everlasting foundation or Chanel Perfection Lumiere (all of which I favour).
That's why Rimmel's matte BB cream was something of a revelation. Available in two shades, and with impressive coverage, this magic potion feels lightweight yet stays in place all day. At just €8.99 it's rather lovely, and my t-zone has thanked me since I found it. It's now shine-free for most of the working day - longer, with a sweep of powder over the top.

And speaking of which, Rimmel's Stay Matte powder has been another fabulous find. MAC's Blot Powder was my face finisher of choice but I see no need to repurchase - this product is every bit as good. Invisible on the skin, it's oil-absorbing and creates a perfected, shine-free face.
My only issue's with the packaging: the plastic lid has a habit of escaping and it doesn't have a mirror - though for €5.99, I have no right to expect one.
