Essence SS14: New Launches & Top Picks!

We're a savvy beauty buying bunch in Ireland: while we love our high-end bits and bobs, we're not snobbish about buying and trying from budget brands, in the hopes of discovering an under-priced and under-rated gem. Which explains why we've all gone so mental over the launch of Wet n Wild on our shores - but I'll have more on that anon.

Today though, it's all about essence,
who have lots of newness headed our way for SS14; much of it plays right into the season's biggest beauty stories and thus, offers an excellent way to try the trends for less.

I'm a fan of the  colour & go nail polish line which offers good quality, cute packaging and a massive shade range for just €1.79. There will be FIFTEEN (!) new shades landing but it's the new effect polishes that are really  piquing my interest. We're talking fashion finishes like glitter jewels, sugar metallics, holographic shimmers and more and all for a teeny €2.49. Bring it on!

Often with budget brands, it's the shadows that leave me underwhelmed - but these 6-pan pallettes look so pretty that I'm prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt.  And let's face it, the €4.39 price tag doesn't hurt. All About Candies (the pastels) and All About Nudes are both appealing - a set of brights and beachy sunset shades will also be on stands.

Coloured mascara is a continuing trend and this always seems fun to me for about four minutes in the summer, so why spend big? Choose from 5 colours here for €3.79 each. Gloss is also returning from the beauty wilderness and essence's offerings have impressed me in the past - there are longlasting glosses, shine glosses and, most excitingly, MATTE GLOSSES! I know, I can't wait either. All are under three quid.

Of course, like with every range, not everything will be a hit. And at these prices, some products just won't stack up against the more expensive brands. But here's the thing: some absolutely will, and when you find them, you've saved yourself a fortune.

You'll find essence in selected pharmacies and Penneys. Will you be trying out anything here?

I think I've seen this brand, the name sounds really familiar. I buy cheap stuff here and often with luck it works better than the more expensive or high named brands. The nail polishes look super cute! Happy Monday doll xx
