Special Occasion Makeup: Navy Smoke & Glossy Pink!

Special occasions are a time to bring out the big beauty guns. Usually I go for pin up style makeup for big events - neutral eyeshadows, winged black liner and a bright lip - but for an extra special wedding this weekend, I went for something a bit different: smoky navy eyes, with a natural, rosy lip.

Perhaps I was inspired by next month's Bobbi Brown launch, Navy & Nude, but since I don't have that palette in my possession I worked with what I have. Fancy a peek?

FACE: When I need a flawless base that will stick around all day, I turn to Chanel Perfection Lumiere or Lancome Teint Idole Ultra 24 Hr. Here it was the former, teamed with Radiant Creamy Concealer from NARS (which I reviewed on beaut.ie here), YSL Touche Eclat and my trusty MAC Blot Powder. A few spritzes of Clarins Fix Plus slightly softens the look, although I'm not entirely convinced it helps it last longer.

CHEEKS: I try to add some definition to my big round head with the Bourjois Bronzing Base followed with Les Beiges de Chanel, which I absolutely adore. A little Benefit Hervana blush brings just the right amount of colour to the cheeks. I forgot to bring my highlighter so I used a little of the shimmery shade, Venus, from the Urban Decay Naked Basics palette which worked fine.

EYES: I started by filling in my brows with the mid brown matte shade Faint from the Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette and then used W.O.S as a base, followed by a little Naked 2. These are the pinkish nude and taupe shades in the palette.

Special Occasion Makeup
Dress Coast; Shoes Rockport; Clutch Olga Berg; Nails Sally Hansen Cherry Bang Bang
Then I switched to YSL's Artic Night palette, from the Northern Lights Christmas collection. The shades are interesting: there's a burgundy, with navy sparkle, silver, cornflower and navy blue and I used the navy and the burgundy together. Artdeco's Magic Eyeliner in  60, a creamy petrol blue, and a few coats of Lancome Hypnose mascara in black completed the look.

LIPS: Keeping the focus on the eyes I just used some of Clinique's Chubby Stick in Mighty Mimosa, a sheer and natural pink, topped off with some Bobbi Brown Pink Lily gloss.

What's your go-to look for a special occasion?

When I was younger I used to think that special occasions are perfect for my whore make up :D Not very proud of that actually!
But now, it's just lipstick and an eyeshadow.

Hi Emma, this is a beautiful look on you. I love how navy looks a little less harsh than black for a smokey eye and I think it makes your eye whites look whiter, did you find that it does? Also, the colours in the YSL palette are gorgeous!
