Halle Berry Closer: Review

Y'all remember my buddy Allsun? She's back to share her thoughts on one of the more interesting celebrity scents of the last few months...

Perfume and Halle Berry aren't words I would always put together, but I was intrigued to hear she has launched the latest celebrity scent Closer. I wouldn't normally purchase "celeb" endorsed perfumes but I was excited to try this one.

The whole theory behind the perfume is that this is a unique fragrance for women that would appeal to men, and therefore create a new level of intimacy through the power of scent. All sounds fantastic if you ask me!

The packaging is lovely and streamlined, the bottle itself is an elegant prism shape and fits in your hand perfectly however it does have the look of a masculine aftershave bottle in other ways.

From the moment I sprayed this perfume, I could smell the tones of spice which were quite manly and definitely gave the scent a good punch. The first thought that came into my head was that this fragrance reminded me a little bit of the aftershave my Dad used to use - "Old Spice"!

However after the initial punch of spice the fragrance settles down into a subtle floral scent that comes across as very sophisticated. The longer you have the perfume on more florally and vanilla tones begin to emerge.  Closer really becomes a lovely rounded scent after the spice calms down.

This fragrance definitely is one that lasts all day, I can still smell it on me and I have had it on over 7 hours, so in my book that is brilliant. This is definitely a perfume I will use, however I would probably use it more for day wear as I like a scent that is a little sweeter for evening time...

Closer is out now, priced at €24.95 for 50ml. What sort of scents do you go for? And if you feel like expanding your collection - do stop by this afternoon!

CHANEL N°5 - For the first time - Inside CHANEL

Fellow Chanel-ophiles will be as charmed and intrigued by this little masterpiece as I was - watch and enjoy as the iconic perfume is brought to life, and we get a real sense of the historic import of the scent. I'm biased, of course - it's my all-time favourite fragrance.

Now, excuse me - I'm off to spritz myself wherever I'd like to be kissed.

WIN! 3 Clarins Gift Sets Worth €62.35 Each! [NOW CLOSED]

Clarins have long been one of my absolute favourite brands. Their skincare has always been exceptional and while at one stage it overshadowed the cosmetics offering, in the past few years that gap has closed - see this morning's post for a case in point. I also love the brand's backstory - check out this post to read about when Fluff and Fripperies met Mr Christian Courtin-Clarins last year.

Along with skincare and makeup, Clarins also do fragrance - botanically-enriched scents that are designed to treat the body and soul, as well as smell divine. With today's prize, three lucky winners will get to experience Eau des Jardins, a fresh citrussy scent that "uplifts, refreshes, captivates" and contains more than 10 essential oils for an aromatherapy effect.

Warehouse Christmas Collection: Sneak Peek!

Tis the season for Christmas previews - we've already had a sneak peek at what's headed our way from Oasis, and today we're talking Warehouse. Where other seasonal collections are all about the bling, Warehouse has focused instead on simple, elegant silhouettes and a muted, neutral colour palette.

We can't get away from Gatsby -and really, why would we want to?! - and here, it's referenced by lots of delicate chiffon layers, pleats and dropped waistlines.  But this is all brought up to date with unexpected touches - like studded shoulders, contrasting details and cool accessorising, like teaming a heavy black belt with a floaty nude dress.

My favourite piece is the nude pleated dress above, around the €90 mark, but there are some really stand-out separates that also caught my eye - like the brocade blazer (€90) and shorts (€60) or that fabulous leather jacket, which at €315 is by far the priciest piece in the collection.

Bling's not entirely absent - we'll be seeing some gorgeous jewellery that's well priced at around €20 - €25 per piece. I've got my eye on their diamante necklaces and I want a statement iPad holder, too - these will also be about €25. I have a soft spot for Warehouse bags and I think this shopper, €55, would look rather good on my arm.

But what do you think, is anything catching your eye?  And if you're a Warehouse fan, do check back later!

Both of these brands are raved about in the beauty community so the winner will be in for a treat.

Blank Canvas Cosmetics Flat Top Kabuki Brush Review + Pics

It's always great when a new company comes along offering high quality make up brushes at affordable prices. And it's even better when that company turns out to be Irish!

Blank Canvas is the creation of Irish makeup artist Una Tynan who set out to design a range of stylish, well made brushes of professional quality. I've had the F20 Flat Top Kabuki brush to play with and I like it a lot - the synthetic bristles are super soft and perfect for buffing or stippling foundation. It's easy to clean, I've experienced no shedding thus far, and it's a very affordable €14.

You can buy Blank Canvas from their website here; and yep, they ship worldwide!

Brushes are a relatively new addiction for me but one that's quickly become full-blown - you can check out how my collection looked around this time last year here, and see what it's developed into on this post on beaut.ie.  I find them quicker and cleaner than using my fingers to apply - though I still do that sometimes - and feel it's easier to achieve a flawless finish.

What's your favourite brush brand? Anything I should really be checking out? And if you fancy building up your collection, come back this afternoon for an international giveaway that might help you do just that!

WIN! 5 x He-Shi Luminous Shimmers, with Tanning Mitts! [NOW CLOSED]

Today we have another brilliant beauty giveaway to celebrate the blog’s first birthday – make sure you’ve entered them all! He-Shi, Ireland’s award winning fake tan brand, is delighted to offer 5 lucky readers a chance to win their brand new product, He-Shi Luminous Shimmer, together with a He-Shi tanning mitt. And if you're pale like Emily (check out this morning's guest post), don't worry - He-Shi was developed especially with paler Celtic skintones in mind!

Pure BB Cream in Super Light: Review and Pics

Remember Emily? Being considerably paler than I am, she's been trialling the Pure BB cream in super light.
BB creams are a bit of a mystery to me. They blew up on the market suddenly and seemed like over-hyped tinted moisturisers, so I avoided them. Until now that is. I trialled the shade “super light” from Pure’s addition to the fold and the name alone felt fitting for me. I’m really very hard to colour match and although I’ve found a few foundations I can work with, it’s a painstaking process. So for all my pale comrades out there, this one’s for you!

Facebook and Twitter Winners Announced, Plus A Fluffy Farewell

Ok, so this is a photo from my last holiday, but hopefully my view will be similar for the next week or so as I'm heading off for some (I hope) fun in the (fingers crossed!) sun. This means I won't get a chance to check in or reply to comments for at least a week but I will catch up with you all as soon as I can.

And in the meantime you can still get your daily fix of fluff and fripperies as I have all sorts of good things scheduled for you, including guest posts from some of my favourite Irish bloggers and, of course, LOTS AND LOTS MORE GIVEAWAYS!

As well as the ones on the blog I've been running some through social media so I wanted to pick the winners before I head away. These ARTDECO goodies were up for grabs on Twitter so congratulations to @lainajanet who has won three magnetic nail polishes (and a magnet!) plus some eyeshadows, blush and an eyeliner from the Dita Von Teese collection.

On Facebook this Benefit Feelin' Dandy kit proved very popular and the lucky winner is Felicity Scott. Felicity please email me your details and  at the end of the month I will send out your prize.

Speaking of Facebook I've just opened another giveaway there for a Snow Fairies gift set from Lush so you might want to check that out.

I will also be picking someone from my email list to win a Fluff and Fripperies goody bag so if you are interested you can sign up for that here.

Good luck everyone - thank you again for reading, and see you in a couple of weeks!

WIN! Two Roger & Gallet Gift Bags Worth €70 Each! [NOW CLOSED]

Y'all know I have much love in my heart for French fragrance brand Roger & Gallet. For a little overview of the brand check out this post (no, really, do - you'll thank me later!)

The latest fragrance launch from the brand is Rose Imaginaire, which conjures up the scent of the most beautiful rose in the world - cleverly, without using any actual essences of rose! Instead the fragrance has been created using mandarin and strawberry from Sicily, Egyptian jasmine and violet and the warm smoky notes of sandalwood and patchouli.

The resulting scent is gorgeous: it's lighter and fruitier than a traditional rose fragrance, sweet and sparkling but grounded with those warm woody base notes.

Rose Imaginaire is priced at €39.75 for 100 ml  - and, you guessed it, I have two to give away! Both prizes will also include some complementary products from the Roger & Gallet Rose range - including a body lotion, travel soap and liquid soap. The gift bags are worth more than €70 each.

If you're living in Ireland and you'd like to try out this beautiful product range,  just follow the simple steps below!

Anna Dello Russo Gold Serpent Cuff

So I may have been cheating just a little bit when I included accessories from Anna Dello Russo's H&M line on yesterday's wish list. Y'see, thanks to the lovely Anne Marie from What She Wears, I already knew I had this baby in the bag.

I've been coveting a piece of this collection since the day I first heard of it. But due to work commitments I knew I couldn't queue up outside H&M the day the collection launched (I know! I'm so dedicated!). A tweet from Anne Marie alerted me to the fact that she was covering it for her site so I got on to her straight away. She got 10 minutes in a pen  with 19 other shoppers and she managed to grab me this gorgeous serpent cuff, while she was there.

From the turquoise and gold packaging to the elaborately designed thick paper bags to the fabulous statement pieces themselves, everything about this collection screams expensive. But guess what? It ain't! My cuff was just €29.95 with the ear-rings coming in for less and the neckpieces going for €49.95.

Check out What She Wears for more details on the launch. Did you get your hands on anything from the collection? Do you like this piece, or is it too over the top for you? Tell me in the comments!
Oh - and make sure you check back later for another birthday giveaway!

Fancy putting your feet up and your head back for a few hours? Of course you do! To celebrate Fluff and Fripperies' second birthday, Hession Hairdressing are offering that luxury and more to one lucky winner. (Read about my Hession experience here!)

Trending: Blue Beauties for AW12

Blue Trend in Fashion and Beauty

From cobalt to navy to electric, blue is one of the hottest shades of the season and is perfect for brightening up your autumn/winter wardrobe. I’d feel anything but blue if these little lovelies came into my life. Clockwise from top left:

ONE I spotted this bright blue pony skin shopper in the Ted Baker store in Dublin and feel seriously tempted – the euro price escapes me but it’s listed as £169 online. It also comes in leopard print and tan.
TWO Gold and blue – or more specifically, turquoise – was the main theme throughout Anna Dello Russo’s amazingly extravagant collection for H&M. I wrote about this here and here – did you snag anything from the line?

THREE Loving the zip detailing on these skinnies from Paige Denim. They’re £245 online here but you'll also find Paige in Ireland in BT2, Dundrum Town Centre - y'know, should you suddenly find yourself in possession of a small fortune and a spare afternoon. In which case, call me?

FOUR Sally Hansen teamed up with designers Prabal Gurung and Alexander Wang to create some stunning nail polish shades to complement their AW12 collections. This dusky blue shade, Blue Rose, was worn on the runway for the Prabal Gurung show during New York Fashion Week. Look out for it in your local pharmacy, but be quick - it’s a limited edition. This is €8.95.
FIVE This Peace floral print scarf from Me and Kashmiere looks soft, cosy and feminine. Print is also huge for AW12 so it’s ticking two trend boxes right there. Plus, this is made from 100% cashmere – what’s not to like? It’s £95 from Trilogy.
SIX I love the chic simplicity of this Marc by Marc Jacobs watch, with its gold detailing and navy leather strap. Let’s just overlook the fact that I’m pretty rubbish at telling the time. Did I just say that out loud?! I spotted this on ASOS where it's €232.90.
Are you feeling blue this autumn?
Oh, and psst! If you're in need of a treat do stop back to the site this afternoon, for the latest birthday giveaway here on Fluff and Fripperies.

WIN! 5 x Mama Mio Boob Tube Bust & Neck firmers, with Fluff and Fripperies and Beauty Boutique! (Open Internationally)[NOW CLOSED]

Model & former Miss Ireland Aoife Cogan with the Mama Mio Boob Tube

We talked about the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade and Breast Promise campaign earlier today. Well the brilliant Irish beauty site, Beautyboutique.ie, are also doing their bit - they're an official Pink Partner of the Irish Cancer Society for Breast Cancer Awareness month.

During the month of October they will donate €2.00 from the sale of each Mama Mio ‘Boob Tube’ product towards the Irish Cancer Society’s Action Breast Cancer programme. This provides breast cancer information and support services to thousands of women across Ireland each year.

Avon’s Breast Cancer Promise Campaign, and a Fluff and Fripperies Original!

Hopefully everyone reading this is aware that October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Has been since 1985, when the American Cancer Society got the ball rolling as a national campaign. Since then, the initiative has caught on globally and every year, more and more companies are thinking pink as they release limited edition items to raise funds for various breast cancer charities.
The world’s largest corporate supporter of the cause? Avon. The company’s Breast Cancer Crusade celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, and in that time has raised more than $840 million worldwide. In Ireland alone the company has raised a cool one million euro in association with their chosen charity partner, ARC Cancer Support.

WIN! 2 x Lush Gift Sets in Fluff and Fripperies Birthday Beauty Bonanza! [NOW CLOSED]

Today is a swishy hair day. Every time I do it I get a delicious waft of the new perfumed hair conditioner from Lush, called Happy Happy Joy Joy. It’s definitely living up to its name. They’re good with appropriate names, are Lush, and today’s giveaway is a case in point. To help celebrate the site’s second birthday, two lucky readers will win the Celebrate gift set (worth €29.95 each), a celebratory box filled with five fabulous foaming goodies.

Lush Christmas Collection - My Top Picks!

As Lush lovers will no doubt be aware, the brand's hotly anticipated Christmas offerings went on sale this weekend.  They've been on a roll recently with their fab new makeup line and, most recently, the launch of a brand new range of hair products  (which I reviewed over on beaut.ie if you want to take a look). So I was expecting good things from their seasonal selection - and they didn't let me down.

WIN! 5 x Sally Hansen Goody Bags With Fluff and Fripperies Birthday Beauty Bonanza - Open Internationally! [NOW CLOSED]

Sally Hansen has featured again and again on this blog - check out this post from earlier today - and their cuticle and nail treatment pen was one of my beauty essentials in U Magazine.  Now's your chance to try out a selection of their best sellers for yourself. Open internationally, five readers will receive a goody bag with the following products.

Sally Hansen Cherry Cherry Bang Bang: Quick NOTD

Here's a little look at what I'm wearing on my nails today. Released this summer, Sally Hansen's Cherry Cherry Bang Bang is a really pretty,  warm plum shade. I wore it a good bit during the warmer weather but I like it just as much now that the seasons have changed. This is €8.99 and part of the excellent Complete Salon Manicure range.

Offering advanced wear, care and shine for up to 10 days, these fab nail polishes rank amongst my all time favourites. They combine a base and top-coat, strengthening and growth treatment and salon-inspired colour, all in one, generous sized bottle. Great shade range, too, and the extra wide brush makes application a breeze.

Are you a Sally Hansen fan? If the answer's yes, or if you're interested in trying the brand, then you might want to check back on the site a little later today. Just sayin'! You could also connect with me on twitter or facebook to make sure you're kept in the loop.

What are you wearing on your nails right now?

Are YOU Ireland's Next Top Fashion Stylist?

Last year I blogged about a great opportunity being offered by Oasis and Ireland AM, to win a dream job as a fashion stylist. Winners Sarah Blake and Justine King (pictured above with the fabulous Lisa from Britain and Ireland's Next Top Model) have been working away as personal stylists for the highstreet favourite. If you're sitting there wishing that was you, then I have good news - this year, they're doing it all over again!

Fluff and Fripperies Is Two - But The Presents Are For You!

October 5th is an important day around these parts. On that date in 2010, the first post went live on this little beauty blog. Two years and nearly 600 posts later, the site is going from strength to strength.

And there has been so much to celebrate around here lately. Fluff and Fripperies is a Blog Awards Ireland finalist (one of 7 in the fashion and beauty category, from a list of 96!), has featured in one of my favourite Irish publications, U Magazine – check out this post for more – and recently passed 1000 followers on Google Friend Connect. I’ve also had the opportunity to write for one of my favourite Irish websites, Beaut.ie, since February, which I still pinch myself about on a regular basis.

This year’s winning products in the make-up category include: Dior Addict Extreme lipstick, Rimmel London Volume Flash Scandal Eyes Mascara, Burberry Sheer Eye Shadow, Estee Lauder Invisible Fluid Make-up and Maybelline New York Dream Fresh 8-in-1 BB Cream.

Korres Myrrh & Oligoelements Nail Colour Collection: Review, Pics, Swatches, NOTD

My nails are absolutely banjaxed. I have no idea what caused it but they are splitting and peeling to beat the band. I've chopped 'em right down and prefer to keep them painted to cover up the damage - but is that just adding insult to injury? Not with this new line from Korres - it may be complicated to pronounce, but the Myrrh & Oligoelements range is simple where it counts: the ingredients list.

Oasis Christmas Collection: Sneak Peek!

Hitting shops by November, the collection is all about gothic glamour and dark romance, with texture, embellishment and statement accessories all playing a key role.

September Favourites from Armani Beauty, La Roche Posay, ARTDECO, A'Kin, Liz Earle, Chanel and Origins

Gosh. Nothing like a monthly favourites post to remind us of time's swift passage and the importance of seizing the day and enjoying life while we can. Or maybe I should just lay off the gin. Either way, here are the beauty bits that have made my world that little bit sweeter over the past few weeks.
