Hopefully everyone reading this is aware that October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Has been since 1985, when the American Cancer Society got the ball rolling as a national campaign. Since then, the initiative has caught on globally and every year, more and more companies are thinking pink as they release limited edition items to raise funds for various breast cancer charities. The world’s largest corporate supporter of the cause? Avon. The company’s Breast Cancer Crusade celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, and in that time has raised more than $840 million worldwide. In Ireland alone the company has raised a cool one million euro in association with their chosen charity partner, ARC Cancer Support.
So when they asked me to do my little bit to help, I was genuinely happy to get involved. With a little* help from a friend – the super talented Monica Ferns, who runs this excellent crafts blog (and is on Twitter here!), this Fluff and Fripperies original was born.
The tshirts are part of Avon’s Breast Cancer Promise campaign, fronted by Yasmin Le Bon and Laura Whitmore, which asks us to make breast checking a part of our regular beauty routine. Early detection saves lives and yet, worryingly, many of us are still not checking our breasts on a regular basis.
Are you ready to make this a part of your daily routine? Pledge your support on the Avon Breast Promise website and for every promise made, Avon will donate €1 or £1 to breast cancer charities. The site also carries useful information on how and when you should check your breasts, and what you should be looking for when you do.
Do you check your breasts regularly? Will you make it part of your daily routine?
