Chanel Perfection Lumière Foundation: Review, Pictures and Swatches

I am loving the current wave of new-generation foundations. Using the snazziest technologies and most innovative formulas we can now expect to look better for longer, with easier application and often with added skincare benefits, to boot. They come at all price points: Clarins Everlasting Foundation (€29) provides lightweight, medium-to-full coverage for up to 15 hours; Lancome's Teint Idole Ultra 24H is out on February 1st priced at €35, and next month Avon introduce Ideal Flawless Foundation at €15.50.

And last week saw the launch of Perfection Lumière from Chanel. At €44 it's at the pricier end of the spectrum but for that, we're promised a longwearing, comfortable, semi-matte finish that delivers a luminous, flawless complexion -- for all skin types. Those are some pretty big claims.

Here's the thing though: it really delivers. Perfection Lumière is a lovely product that is fast becoming one of my all-time favourite foundations. It replaces the discontined Pro Lumière but is a very different type of animal indeed. I liked Pro -- I wore it on my wedding day -- but its dewy finish only lasted a few hours before sliding off my face. This stuff, though -- this stuff I absolutely adore.

I've tried it with my fingers and with a brush, and I love the results with both. It delivers a near flawless finish, but without looking or feeling at all heavy or unnatural. Coverage is medium and the finish is semi-matte, so there's a hint of glowiness here that keeps things looking very natural. It's got SPF 10, and it really does last all day. I can see this product appealing to pretty much anyone, and the good news is it's available in 16 shades, the biggest range offered by the brand to date. I was sent Beige 30 and it suits me to a tee: when I wear it, I feel prettier and more put together and really, isn't that what we're all looking for from our makeup?

What are your foundation favourites?

Ooh pretty! I'm in love with Pro Lumiere and was DEVASTATED when they discontinued it, so maybe this can be the replacement! xx

Cheers Julie! It's a very different finish to Pro so make sure you try before you buy. I much prefer it though xo

SNAP!

I bought this at the airport on my way back, because I had heard pro was going to be discontinued soon. I was a bit peeved about it being a couple of euro more but you're right, it's so perfect! I wear no.30 too!

I cannot wait to try this. Have to finish a few foundations first though before I can justify the purchase!

Great review & such pretty pics! Agree it's a very different formula from the Pro - much more matte finish.

This has just gone on to my must-try list. I'm currently loving MAC Face & Body though, and with the size of that bottle it may be 2013 before I need to buy another foundation!

Just bought it on your recommendation!! From the way the girl applied, it looks amazing so far on my skin. I find it hard to get a foundation that matches my fair skin on neck and face, so the girl recommended the fairest No.10!

Delighted!!!!

I’ve heard a lot about this and it is tempting me, especially as it has a semi matte finish and SPF 10. I tend to apply foundation with my fingers so its reassuring that this can be applied in this way too!

Victoria, if anything I *prefer* the finish when I apply with my fingers! xo

I loved your review. I am definitely more of a tinted moisturized girl (love Stila), but I would try a nice foundation for the days I need a bit more.

Want! I loved Vitalumiere Aqua but want a bit more coverage, so this will be mine! x

I'm finding the coverage is spot-on with this. Covers everything while still looking like real skin, if you know what I mean! xo

Ah I definitely need to try this now, it sounds gorgeous - any excuse to make a trip to the Chanel counter is definitely welcome! Fingers crossed it goes pale enough for my ghostly skin! x

Uh-oh. I feel another splurge coming on. Sounds like a dream! Especially when summer comes and I'm toning down on coverage a tad....assuming we get a summer that is! Lovely review!
