Wanted! Guest Reviewer for Fluff and Fripperies! [NOW CLOSED!]

Fancy reviewing this little lot? Read on!

By now you probably know how much I love the brilliant budget beauty brand Catrice (the evidence is here and here and here) but apart from one (gorgeous) gloss, I’ve yet to try anything from their funky trend-led sister brand, Essence. So I was really excited when they sent me a few bits and bobs to try out, some from their new autumn/winter collection and some from their existing line.
Now, the products that hit my desk look fantastic, but I think the colour palette of pinks and blues really needs somebody with a different skin-tone to do them proper justice.  Luckily, these products represent excellent value so it was no hardship to pop into my local chemist and pick up a few other pieces to road-test myself.

Here's what I picked up for myself...reviews to follow!
Which means…I’m taking a leaf out of Paula's book, and looking for a guest reviewer!  If you think you're up to the job, here are the products I'll be sending you:
Essence quattro eyeshadow in Oh-So-Cute €3.49
New and improved for the Autumn collection the quattro eyeshadows contain four perfectly matched colours in different textures, to create a range of different, long-lasting looks. I’m looking for a reviewer for Oh-So-Cute, one of four new colour combinations that have been added to the existing six. This contains four shimmering shades in blue, dark navy, pink and white.

Essence colour & go quick drying nail polish in Just Rock It €1.29
Also new this autumn are a whopping 28 new colours in the Colour & Go range. These promise an extra fast-drying formula thanks to the flat brush – I love these types of polishes and find them super easy to use. Just Rock It looks like a great glossy navy.
Essence XXXL Multi Dimension nail colour in Cool And The Gang €1.99
Introduced in February this year, Cool And The Gang is more of a Royal Blue and is part of the XXXL Multi Dimension range which promises high shine and long-lasting results.
Stay With Me Long-lasting Lipgloss in Me & My Ice-Cream €2.49
Available in 6 shades, these are creamy, shimmer free shades which promise a long-lasting, non-sticky finish. They look fantastic but this baby pink shade would be wasted on me and deserves a better home!
If you’d like to review these products for Fluff and Fripperies just make sure you’re following with Google Connect (hit the ‘Join the Site’ button to the left there, under the Facebook gizmo) and leave a comment below to tell me why - along with an email address or your Twitter name, so I can get in touch.

NEW! Toleriane Teint Compact-Creme from La Roche-Posay, for dry and sensitive skin

Some of my friends have very sensitive skin and find foundations particularly tricky. So I was interested to hear about the latest product from La Roche-Posay, launched just this month. This French brand – named after a village in the Vienne region famed for its thermal waters – has more than 30 years’ research experience into products especially formulated for sensitive skin. Their new Toleriane Teint Compact-Creme seeks to provide the high coverage of a complexion corrector and the soothing properties of a skincare in one innovative ‘double comfort’ texture. Sounds interesting, right?
Here’s what they say: Dry and sensitive skins find compact foundations thick, heavy and can cling to dry or blemished areas like a mask.  Toleriane Teint Compact-Creme offers truly natural looking results, concealing imperfections with complete comfort and SPF 35 protection.
The texture sounds especially intriguing, described as ‘ultra melting’, and composed of waxes, emollient oils and a texturising agent to melt onto the skin, leaving a fine film of natural looking coverage.
The product contains Neurosensine, a dermatological active ingredient used for sensitivity regulation, which is intended to soothe and reduce the reaction risk of dry and sensitive skin. It comes with a specially designed latex-free, anti-friction sponge for application.
Costing €20, Toleriane Teint Compact-Creme is available from pharmacies nationwide in four shades: ivory, light beige, sand beige and golden.  See http://www.laroche-posay.ie/ to find a stockist near you.
If you do have dry or sensitive skin, make sure you check out my current giveaway of a €100 NUXE goody bag containing a selection from the Rêve de Miel range, especially soothing for dry and sensitive skins.
Those with normal or normal-to-combination skin should check out this lovely Vichy giveaway to win one of five tubes of their latest moisturiser, Normaderm Anti-Age.

NOTD: Angelica nail polish in Holiday Fun and Love You.

To go with the purple makeup look I was wearing on Sunday (which you can see here in my first FOTD - as an aside, I'd love to know what you think of these posts. Yay, nay or couldn't care less?) I decided to wear these Angelica nail colours I picked up in Penneys for, well, pennies...€2.75 per bottle, to be precise.

These are the first polishes I've tried from the range and I was pretty impressed. Holiday Fun is a lovely bright reddish purple - I want to call it magenta - with a blue microshimmer. I think the photo above captures it quite well, you can see the magenta colour clearly around the sides of the bottle, with the bluish shimmer making it look almost lavender up there towards the bottle cap. It went on nicely in two coats.

I went for an accent nail by adding two coats of Love You to the nail on my ring finger, on each hand. Love You is a lovely, vibrant, hot pink glitter and I thought these colours went really nicely together.

They only lasted a day without chipping, despite a topcoat, but overall I was still pretty happy for the price and I'm planning to pick up a gold glitter that also caught my eye. Have you tried any Angelica polishes yet?

YSL Dessin Du Regard Long-lasting Waterproof Eye Pencil in Shimmering Burgundy: Review, Swatches and first FOTD!

Purple is BIG NEWS again this Autumn/Winter but it’s a shade I’ve always found a little tricky, especially on the eyes. I own a few purple eye-shadows but rarely wear them as I think they make me look not dissimilar to having two black eyes when I do.  So I was delighted when I was sent this Yves Saint Laurent eye pencil to try out as it seemed like an easier way for me to buy into the purple trend. Other than that I didn’t give it much more thought, thinking something along the lines of ‘an eyeliner is an eyeliner is an eyeliner’.
But I was wrong.

This eye pencil surprised and impressed me in a number of ways. Firstly, I was surprised by the colour, because it’s much darker and less reddish toned than the name suggests. It’s more like a smoky amethyst, which is fabulous because it’s so right now. The shimmer is very subtle, which I liked. I was also surprised by the rich, creamy formulation and how easy this was to apply. I loved the colour and how it looked on my eyes but the biggest surprise was when I looked in the mirror about 4 hours after application, expecting at least a little bit of smudging, to find it looking perfectly intact, as if just freshly applied. And when I checked a few hours later, it looked exactly the same. And again a few hours after that! This, to me, is unheard of with a pencil, especially as I had applied it thickly and on both my top and bottom lashline. Oh, and I’d also been out in the rain!

Costing €25 for a pencil plus sharpener, this is also available in Black Ink,  Patent Leather (deep brown), Ultramarine and Amazon Green. I highly recommend.
Now I’m going to end this post with a first for Fluff and Fripperies…my very first FOTD! Some of you requested this when I asked what you’d like to see more of on this site. Please do bear in mind that despite my fondness for makeup I don’t think I’m particularly good at applying the stuff and am just an enthusiastic amateur! But here’s what I wore yesterday for a big girly Sunday brunch in town.

Face: Clarins Everlasting foundation; Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer; Bourjois Eclat Mineral Pressed Powder; Bourjois blush in #33 Lilas D'or; The Body Shop Honey Bronze Bronzing Powder in Shade #4 (contour).
Eyes: Nude and medium purple shades from Estee Lauder quad in Berry Quartz; Yves Saint Laurent Dessin Du Regard Long-lasting Waterproof Eye Pencil in Shimmering Burgundy; La Roche Posay Respectissime Waterproof mascara in black; Rimmel Professional Eyebrown Pencil in Dark Brown.
Lips: Avon Colordisiac lipstick in Drawn To You
Nails: NOTD coming up soon!

Have you tried these eye pencils and what did you think?

Fluffy Little Pick of the Week: Avon Colordisiac Lipstick

Flirty Fuchsia taking centre stage with Drawn To You on its left, and Sultry Bronze to the right.
This week’s pick is Avon’s Colordisiac lipstick which regular readers might remember I mentioned in this review of the awesome SuperShock Max mascara.  Their lovely PR lady sent me this trio to test out - it’s a tough job, but somebody’s got to do it!

Look at those gorgeous 'dip-dyed' tubes of shimmery purple and gunmetal grey
Prettily packaged and sweet smelling with a satin finish, these creamy, dreamy colours are reduced to a bargaintastic €7.5o right now in the Avon Online Shop (a saving of more than a fiver on the usual retail price of €12.75).

Of the 10 available shades the standout for me would be Flirty Fuchsia, a bright pink which, happily, is one of the three I’ve been given.  The pinkish purple Drawn To You is proving appropriately named as I find it ever more appealing, and Sultry Bronze would make a great holiday look with just a slick of turquoise liner on the eyes.  I also think Temptress and Red Hot Lips both warrant further investigation. Now, just where did I leave my wallet...?!

Introducing... Take Five Thursdays!

Take five of my favourite bloggers over five weeks, talking about their top five favourite beauty products and what do we have? Fluff and Fripperies new post series, Take Five Thursdays! My first guest blogger is Karen who, along with her sister Joanne, writes one of my favourite Irish beauty blogs, Lovely Girlie Bits. Karen's writing style is naturally witty and warm and her personality shines through: reading her blog feels like sitting down for a natter with an old friend. Here's what she had to say:

So five products eh?  This is going to be a toughie for a product hoarder like my good self.  I've just started a new skincare regime so don't really have skin care favourites yet so here are my top 5 make up products at the moment.  I say at the moment because this could change at any time!  I've so many products in my stash that it is a *huge* deal if something makes it to my top 5!
1. Mac MSF natural.  I use this every single day and it is my Holy Grail powder (until something better comes along, I can't help it, even if I've found something totally amazing, it's in my DNA to see if there's anything out there that's better)  It blends into my skin effortlessly leaving a satin finish.  Love and don't think this will ever leave the top 5.
2. Stila eye shadow in Kitten.  This is the most gorgeous champagne shimmery eye shadow ever and everyone should have it in their collection, end of.  On it's own it gives a lovely wash of colour over the lid and looks beautiful blended with a bronzey shadow to give a night time look.  It's the first eye shadow I ever hit pan on and that's saying something.
L-R: Bourjois Volume Fast & Perfect; Stila Kitten; Benefit Coralista; The Body Shop Honey Bronze gel; MAC MSF Natural

3. The Body Shop Honey Bronze Bronzing Gel for face.  Scary when you squirt it on your hand but once blended into your skin it gives a natural sun kissed glow.  I know that sounds cheesy, sun kissed, but it is beeeeautiful, so cheesy or not, it's on my list!
4. Benefit's Coralista is the perfect coral blush.  It gives me that healthy glow with a little bit of shimmer and I can never apply it badly.  It is something I think everyone should have in their stash so when you buy it, feel free to tell me how right I was.
5. Bourjois Volume Fast & Perfect rotating mascara.  I have a lot of mascaras in my collection, an obscene amount, yet this is one I keep going back to since buying it a few months ago.  It has a little battery powered motor in it that rotates the wand, helping your lashes to be lifted at the roots.  When used at the very tips of the lashes, it adds that extra bit of length.  I'm sorry to say that I think the battery might be dying so I'm going to have to pick up a replacement soon.
So these are my top 5 products.  I'm now wracked with guilt over the products that didn't make it but you know what?  You gotta be amazing to be in my top 5!

Chanel Le Vernis: my stash!

I've known since I first wrote about the new Chanel nail colours that I'd be bringing at least one of them home to join my small but perfectly formed collection of Chanel polishes. I'm still deciding (I'm limited to one!) but in the meantime I thought I'd show you the six colours I've already fallen for. From top left we have Black Pearl, Black Satin and Rouge Noir; from left on the bottom row is Particuliére (my favourite so far), Mica Rose and Rose Satin. Don't they look pretty all laid out together? Like they deserve a display case, instead of being forced to share a shelf in my fridge along with the rest of my nail polish collection.

Do you own these or any other Chanel polishes? And are you planning to pick up Graphite, Péridot or Quartz, to join them?!

Review of Liz Earle Sheer Skin Tint with SPF 15 – glowtastic!

One of the most popular posts on this site details my quest to find the perfect illuminating products. Loss of radiance in my skin is fo’ sho’ the biggest change I’ve noticed as I’ve aged, and I would pay A LOT of money to reclaim the gorgeous youthful glow I slathered in heavy cover-up throughout my teenage years.
But luckily I don’t have to, because this long awaited launch from Liz Earle - the brand’s first foray into the world of makeup - doesn’t disappoint; my skin looks radiant, illuminated and literally glowing with health.

Suitable for all skin types, and designed for use all year round, Sheer Skin Tint is billed as ‘the natural bridge from skincare through to colour’, delivering lightweight coverage to even out the skin tone and provide a natural dewy finish.  It comes packaged in a sleek dark-blue tube with subtle shimmer.
If you like full-coverage on your face then, as with all tinted moisturisers, this isn’t the product for you. But if you want a natural, youthful glow, then you’ll love this baby. It’s the best product I’ve tried in this category, and that includes Laura Mercier’s much touted version (which I've reviewed here).
L -R: Blobbed, sheered out a bit and blended
Normally I would switch to a tinted moisturiser in the summer months and build back up to greater coverage come autumn/winter time. However, I hear rumblings that a key makeup trend for next season is the New Natural, and this product, with its my-skin-only-better finish, is the perfect starting point for that look.
Available from next month in three shades – bare, beige, and beach – this will cost €23.75 for 40 ml of product (which is less than HALF THE PRICE I paid for Laura Mercier’s tinted moisturiser earlier this summer!). The tube is tipped to last for around 3 months. You’ll get a sample of each shade with your order too, so you can return it if your initial choice doesn’t suit your skin tone.
Tempted? And what do you want to see next from Liz Earle Colour?

NEW! Creme Prodigieuse line from NUXE

See that unassuming little blue flower up there? That’s the blue everlasting flower, the emblem and key ingredient in the new Crème Prodigieuse range from Parisian brand NUXE. Evolving from their bestselling Huile Prodigieuse,  a dry body oil with a rake of celebrity fans like Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Aniston and Irish beaut.ie co-founder Aisling McDermott, this new line contains just four products: two day creams (for dry and normal-to-combination skins), one eye contour cream and one night cream.

Intended for women of all ages, the range is the product of 10 years of research on anti-oxidation and meets two fundamental skin care needs: daily anti-fatigue and moisturising action, combined with protection against oxidative stress (this is those nasty free radicals you’ll have heard about, that cause damage to the skin in the aging process). It does this by teaming everlasting blue with other active ingredients including vegetable glycerine to moisturise and blue agerate (another flower) and cocoa to re-energise the skin.

L-R: Eye contour cream, day cream, night cream

I haven’t roadtested mine yet but I can tell you that they smell sublime and have really lovely textures that felt amazing when I tried them out on my hands. The prices won’t break the bank, either – these come in at €23 for the day creams, €24.50 for the night cream and €18 for the eye cream. If the success of the Huile Prodigieuse is anything to go by, I expect these products will soon develop similar cult status.
Have you tried any NUXE products and what did you think? Would you give these a whirl?

Fluffy little pick of the week: Maison Lancome

At €45, this week’s pick is a little pricier than the usual Friday fripperies on this blog. But just look at it – it’s a veritable objet d’art! Almost too pretty to use, this vintage inspired Maison Lancôme blush palette is the jewel of the new  collection, 29 Saint Honoré – named for the Paris address of the Lancôme Institute, home to the brand for the past 75 years.  The collection, inspired by the Femme Fatales of the 30s and 40s, also includes chic red lipsticks and an eyeshadow quad in shades of neutral browns and taupes.  A grey mascara and two shades of Le Vernis nail polish, in red and sparkly black, complete the collection. It’s available at Lancôme counters nationwide from the 1st of September.
But this pretty palette does not come cheap. What do you think, ooh la la or oh no, no?!

Vichy Normaderm Anti-Age Review: Savvy Skincare

Vichy Normaderm Anti-Age

When I first read the blurb about Vichy Normaderm Anti-Age I felt like this product was speaking directly to me. I found myself nodding along in general agreement and stopped just shy of shouting AMEN TO THAT across the office floor. Because this is the first product I’ve come across that is specially designed for MY SKIN – skin that isn’t exactly young but not exactly old yet either, that’s starting to show a bit of wear and tear but still sports the odd blemish or two (or twenty, at certain times of the month)…
And when this highly promising little tube landed on my doormat it couldn’t have come at a better time.  I had just revised my opinion on my skin from ‘ah sure it’s grand’ to ‘holy jaysus’ with the advent of a particularly vicious breakout on my chin,  some milia caused by a particularly rich eye-cream, a couple of stubborn open pores and the realisation that the big freckle on my face is actually a sun spot. The horror!
Tackling not only blemishes and wrinkles, but also dilated pores, dark spots and an uneven complexion, this arrived like a blessing from the Skincare God(ess?).
Vichy Normaderm Anti-Age

Billed as the first anti-imperfection and anti-wrinkle skincare, Vichy Normaderm Anti-Age contains active ingredients like lipo-hydroxy acid (LHA) and Glycolic Acid, both used in professional dermatological peels as they act on the epidermis to exfoliate and stimulate skin renewal from within.  This little green tube of goodness also contains glucosylated Vitamin C for a smoothing anti-wrinkle effect, to tackle dark spots and provide a softer complexion.
The pale green gel cream is lightly scented and lovely to apply – it feels refreshing and soothing on my skin. It’s also paraben-free, hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic so suitable for all skintypes.
For the past week this has replaced my regular moisturiser in my skincare routine. I apply it after serum, morning and night, and noticed a definite improvement after just 2 to 3 days. My fine lines and that stubborn dark spot are, so far, unaffected but it’s opened a can of whoopass on those blemishes and the congestion on my chin has cleared up nicely. Most noticeably, my skin looks better and less ‘tired’: my complexion is a lot smoother and more even, and when I wake up in the morning my combination skin feels matte, without that slight oiliness in the t-zone.
Launching next month,  Vichy Normaderm will be priced at €17.50 which is an excellent price for such a unique and effective product.
This, combined with Lancôme Visionnaire, could be my new Holy Grail of skincare. And ladies, that is saying A LOT.

First thoughts on Lancome Visionnaire: WOW.

Lancome Visionnaire Serum

I’m really trying not to be too gushy about this product because I have only been using it for five days - and not the recommended four week minimum to reap the full skincare benefits – and so I am trying to remain objective until I come back with a full report. But it’s hard, because OH MY GOD IT’S BEAUTIFUL AND I LOVE IT AND I NEED IT AND IT’S MINE!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, bugger.

Lancome Visionnaire Serum

But it really is, you know. Beautiful. Just look at it. And lest you think I’m shallow, I was all het up about this little beauty long before I clapped eyes on its sleek silver and aqua bottle. Because let’s face it: it’s hard not to be excited about this particular product launch, especially if you’re a hardcore beauty junkie like myself.

Twelve years in development, Lancôme’s Visionnaire contains a brand new beauty molecule, LR 2412, that has been INDEPENDENTLY TESTED by scientists at Manchester University for proven efficacy - they said they were “impressed with what we saw.”

LR 2412 is multi-tasking because it has multiple effects within different areas of the skin.  And as a result, Visionnaire can target several different skincare concerns at once:  billed as an ‘advanced skin corrector serum’, it can reduce wrinkles, minimise pores, correct pigmentation irregularities and restore radiance.

Proven to be as effective as retinol, it’s also more gentle on the skin: it can be used around the eyes, and on all skin types, even the most sensitive.

I know, right? WOW. There’s loads of science and research behind it and I suggest you check out this short little video clip for more.

I was sent it to trial and have been using it for five days, which is obviously not long enough to give you a considered review. But already I see a difference in the texture and tone of my skin: I feel fresher, and brighter, and did I already say wow? Because…wow.

Lancome Visionnaire Serum Swatches
Visionnaire is a lovely light pearlescent fluid that's easily absorbed.
For now, and as of last week, Visionnaire is available exclusively from Lancôme counters at Brown Thomas stores in Ireland, and Selfridges in the UK. It launches worldwide from September 1st, priced at €70 for 30 ml of product.

Now €70 euro is spendy, so I suggest you rush on over to the Lancôme Facebook page to sign up for a FREE 10-day-trial to try before you buy -- and please, do come back and tell me what you thought. I’ll be back in 3 weeks to give you a more considered opinion. Which I’m hoping can be summed up as: WOW!

Avon SuperShock Max mascara: size matters

With the launch this month of their new maximising mascara, Avon prove that sometimes, bigger really does mean better. SuperShock Max has to be the Daddy of all mascara, with its chunky turquoise tube and giant wand (now, now), and it makes a lot of big, bold claims: 15 x more volume, thanks to Avon’s first Helix brush, designed to deliver maximum fullness and a layered, dramatic look that’s clump free.  Want to see how it measures up?

So, big tube, big wand, big head, big promises: but how does it perform? Let’s take a look:

Here's me looking a little startled, totally makeup free.

Looking a little more awake, with one coat of mascara on one eye...

Aaaand....BAM! Two coats on both eyes, and looking mighty pleased about it.

So the verdict’s in: size matters. This stuff rocks. I’m loving my bigger, bolder lashes with no clumps or flakes. I had a little bit of smudginess to start with – my fault, not the product’s, because I’m just not used to working with such a giant brush. But after a couple of uses I’m a dab hand and a big fan of the full-on, volumised lash look this delivers. At €15 for 10ml, I think it’s well priced, too - I was sent mine to try out, but I'd happily buy this again.

This was the first piece of Avon makeup that I’ve tried, but it won’t be the last. I’ve heard rave reviews of their Supershock gel liners and Colordisiac lipsticks, so these items are next on my hit list! Avon don’t sell through shops but exclusively through independent sales representatives – find yours here.

And if you’re feeling lucky, make sure you check out Rosemary MacCabe’s giveaway over on Fash Mob – she has FIVE tubes of SuperShock Max up for grabs.

What's your current mascara fave? Oh and listen, while you're here, you might as well enter my giveaway too, for a chance to win three lovely shades of Cream Puff lip cream...

Fluffy little pick of the week: statement ring from Forever 21

This week's pick is this chunky gold ring from Forever 21, a shop I have mixed feelings about: ambivalence towards their clothes, but undying love for their jewellery department.  We were meant to be together -- and we frequently are. I picked up this baby, which fits even my stubby little fingers thanks to the clever stretch band design, to wear to last night's fabulous Best in Beaut.ie Awards in association with West Coast Cooler (more on that anon) and the best bit is that it cost me all of €4.90. Yes, that's right: change from a fiver! My nails are Blue Cara Ciao from Catrice (see here and here for my other favourite colours from this brilliant budget brand).

Win! 10 x New Lush Toothy Tabs in Dirty [UK & Ireland only] [NOW CLOSED!]

Lush retain their crown as king of the solid cosmetic with the introduction of these innovative Toothy Tabs, a brand new, patented tooth cleanser that had me literally foaming at the mouth. Portable, environmentally sound and travel-friendly, these are also a lot more fun than your average paste: just crush and brush!

Toothy Tabs look just like breath mints and come packaged in a recyclable cardboard box, made of recycled materials: a great initiative, considering thousands of aluminium toothpaste tubes end up in landfill every year. There are 6 unusual and unique flavours to choose from: Dirty (€2.50), Sparkle (€3.10), Breath of God (€3.10), Atomic (€3.10), Ultrablast (€3.45) and Aquatic (€4.45).  Each pack contains 40 tabs, which is about a month’s supply.
Dirty is tipped as tasting the most like your regular toothpaste, with spearmint and neroli to keep your breath fresh. The minty taste is a lot more subtle than I expected but I really enjoyed the sensation: within seconds of crunching a tab my mouth was filled with a thick, cleansing foam -- and a lot of it, too. I brushed as usual and my teeth felt squeaky clean. I also liked the cheeky packaging– oral pleasure guaranteed!

If you’d like some oral pleasure of your own, then you’re in luck: I’ve got 10 packs of Dirty Toothy Tabs to give away. You just have to be a follower of this blog (the Followers gadget is under the Facebook box to the left there, just hit 'Join this site' and follow the prompts) and leave a comment below with the name you’re following under, and your email address or Twitter name.
If you’ve already tried these out I’d love to know what you thought!
