NOTD: ombre nails

I spotted this post on Pretty Young Thingz about ombre nails and tried it out last week. The idea is that you pick 5 shades of the same colour and graduate them, light to dark.
The products I used were:
Chanel Le Vernis in Black Satin (thumbs)
Bourjois 1 Seconde Innovation nail polish in #28 (index fingers)
Chanel Le Vernis in Black Pearl (middle fingers)
Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Grey By Grey (ring fingers)
Rimmel 60 Seconds in Grey Matter (pinky fingers)

I was really happy with the result and pretty bummed that not one person noticed. Unless you count my friend Eleanor, who was very excited when I first launched myself across the room and waved my nails under her nose. The conversation went a little like this:
Me: LOOK AT MY OMBRE NAILS ELLE LOOK LOOK LOOK NOBODY NOTICED!
Eleanor: Your what, now?
Me: MY OMBRE NAILS THEY GO FROM DARK TO LIGHT!
Eleanor: OH MY GOD, THEY GO FROM DARK TO LIGHT, THAT’S AMAZING! HOW DO THEY DO THAT?!? THAT’S FABULOUS!
Me: You use different colours of nail polish. They don’t change colour or anything.
Eleanor: Oh.

My nails lasted for two days until two nails on each hand were quite badly chipped. The other nails were all grand. Coincidentally the chipped polishes also happened to be the most expensive, proving to me yet again that with nail polish the cost really is no reflection on the quality. And so I actually passed on Graphite, Peridot or Quartz in the airport this weekend and picked up an Illusion D'ombre eyeshadow, instead…
